5/6/11 Weekly Update
Its hard to believe its already Friday! For those of you working Mon-Fri jobs, TGIF!! Its been great to see the sunshine more this past week. I think its been helping people to smile more. I hope you are planning on coming to this week's service, rain or shine, since its guaranteed to help you smile.
The Flower Communion was created by a Unitarian minister when his church members were living in the war-torn Prague with little food, water, or things that worked. It was a hard time, and people were not in the best of moods. He wanted to help them remember to look for gifts of love everywhere. And so he invited people to bring in a flower, a twig, anything pretty to add to a vase, to give away as a gift to someone else. We honor his memory, and this important reminder to seek for what is beautiful and good in life, each year at our annual Flower Communion. I know that the spring has been slow in springing, but look and see what you can bring.
And if that's not enough to make you smile, we will be dedicating our new babies and children. Nothing melts my heart faster than a new baby. And we are lucky to have two this spring! Plus several more children, each with their own smile to warm your heart.
I've been slowly getting my feet under me . . . catching up on all the goings-on while I was away. I'd still love to meet with you personally, and hear your stories about what has been happening in your life. Do let me know if you'd like to set up a time when we can just sit and talk, share a cup of tea or a meal.

Please bring a flower to share from your garden or the store. We remember our Unitarian friends in Prague each year who, in the midst of the suffering right after the war, started this ritual to help themselves remember to seek for beauty and hope. This Sunday we welcome our young new additions – babies and children not yet dedicated, will be dedicated on this day.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Islamic Community will have an open house at the new building at 2110 Sager Street, Waterloo, IA for our community and friends on Saturday May 7th from 12:00n-4:00p.m. There will be refreshments and two presentations at 1:00p.m. and 2:00p.m.

Do you love children? Do you love to help others?
If you answered yes, then the Parent to Parent program can connect YOU with a new mother and baby who can use your encouragement. You don't have to have parenting experience, but mothers and grandmothers are welcome!
Being a mother can be as challenging as it is rewarding, and a Parent to Parent volunteer makes a difference in the life of a new mother through regular visits and phone calls to a mother and her baby.
Training for new volunteers will be held Saturday, May 21st from 9 am – 1 pm in Suite 409
at Family & Children's Council. Please pre-register by Monday, May 16th.
