Weekly Update

Hello,
Some of you know I made a sudden trip to New Hampshire to be with my mother as she completed her first two rounds of chemotherapy. Happily, she seems to be handling the chemo very well so far. It was good to see her looking so well, and to connect with some of my other NH family.
Tomorrow I'll be in church to give the sermon. Then I will be taking some reading and sermon planning time in my traditional camping spot on the beach of Lake Michigan. This year, I'll be joined by Sadie dog and Chuck's daughter Morgan. Then in mid-August we will begin to gear up to the normal full-schedule, with Sunday School classes, band, choir and more!
Several church members are off on RAGBRAI this week as Team Flamingo! They are having fun and raising money for children of low-income families can attend Grin and Grow DayCare. We are wishing them lots of fun, many breezes that blow in the right direction, and a lot more downhills than up!

Announcements
The UU Garden is in full "Bloom"!
There will be plenty of fresh and healthy just picked garden produce for sale this Sunday after the service.  Remember your monetary donation for the food items goes to the Northeast Iowa Food Bank to help those in need right here in your community.  By getting your produce from the UU Garden, you help the Green Living Committee to fulfill their community outreach mission and our 1st, 2nd and 7th UU principles as well.  There should be plenty of mixed greens, peas, kohlrabi, beets, swiss chard, dill, and other herbs. Thanks!  Johanna Foster, chair Green Living
Social Action: The congregation will vote in August on a list of 11 organizations to receive donations from our special monthly plate collections. If you would like to recommend an organization that hasn't been on our ballot before, please email Social Action Chair, Sally Browne, at <sallyb758@gmail.com> by Aug 1 to get that organization included on the ballot.  Sally
