Weekly Update 8/28/09 Greetings! I hope you are looking forward to our guest speaker’s visit as much as I am. This year, as we are working towards Marriage Equality as a religious community, it will be important that we learn to talk with people who call themselves “Christian with both strength of our own sense of right, as well as deep respect. Our faith was born out of two powerful and visionary voices of what it means to be Christian. And although not all of us call ourselves Christian anymore, and some even would argue that UU’s are not Christian. Our faith history set us on a certain trajectory, and that is how we are here, where we are today. It provided a framework of the Holy as “Radical Love” that abides. Come and enter this conversation!
Keep on living and loving!
~Eva
This Sunday: August 30th
8:30 am Music Rehearsal
9:30 am “Universalism: Past, Present and Powerful”
Guest Preacher: Rev. Kalen Fristad; Rev. Eva Cameron, Worship Associate. Rev. Fristad is an ordained United Methodist Minister. After serving churches in Iowa for twenty-seven years, he embarked upon an independent ministry. He conducted this ministry full time from 2003-2006. It consisted of traveling around the country with his wife, Darlene, accepting invitations to speak to churches and other groups, countering the teaching that many people will suffer for eternity in hell and instead, proclaiming the hopeful message of universalism. He went back to the parish ministry in July 2006.
As of January 2008, while continuing to serve churches in Iowa part-time, he has resumed his traveling ministry, spending half-time on the road speaking on the subject of universalism.
Rev. Fristad has written a book, Destined for Salvation: God’s Promise to Save Everyone, and a Study Book with the same title. His books, CDs and DVDs will be available for purchase after the service.
Following the service, we invite you to join us for coffee and refreshments in the Fellowship Hall.
