Weekly Update

Over these past few days, our hearts have wept for the immense pain of the people of Haiti  . . . and the immense arrogance of Pat Robertson and his voice of ugliness and hatred among us. Our minister-friend in Des Moines asked on his Facebook page this week, "If the Haitians made a 'deal with the devil' that has invited their suffering, what 'deal' did Americans make to deserve Pat Robertson?" Although this brings a smile, it also leaves us to wonder . . . just how much hatred are we breeding in our country. It makes Standing on the Side of Love all that more important.

There are many ways to help the Haitian people. Our own UUA, along with the UU Service Committee, have started a fund. You can learn about their work and how to donate here: <http://www.uusc.org/content/major_earthquake_devastates_haiti_uusc_uua_launch_relief_fund>
Over $200,000 has already been donated to this fund!
Their projects tend to focus on helping those overlooked by others.

Weekly Update - 1/2/10

Happy New Year!
I hope you had a good holiday time, and that you enter 2010 with vigor and enthusiasm to see what this decade brings. Of course, some of what it will bring, will be what we bring to it. Are you pondering what areas of life and joy and justice you will be aiding in the coming weeks, months, years? The beginning of the year is a good time to reflect and review how we spend out precious energy. For me, an eagle seems to have captured my heart . . . and I will be spending more time helping our wildlife, after my experiences of the last week. I also am looking forward to renewing my passion towards helping our Unitarian schools in the Khasi Hills. What will it be for you?
Sunday Service (9:30 to 10:45am)

“Anniversary Sunday: All Are Invited”
Rev. Eva Cameron with Bill Chene as Worship Associate. Join us as we celebrate the founding of the Universalist branch of our church. On a cold day in January, in 1874, a group gathered to form a church for people who had questions, and yet still felt that God loved them just as much. They called themselves the Universalists. Come learn a bit about our past, and celebrate those early stalwarts of our faith. The children will join us as we serve Communion using our historic Universalist communion. And my message will include some learning about the idea of Open Communion.

Christmas Eve Reminders

Hello!

We are still planning to hold our Christmas Eve services at 5:30 and 8pm.
Our annual Christmas Party will be between the services at 6:30pm, Hot beverages will be provided, and we ask that you bring a snack, cookies, or some kind of treat to share.

We would suggest that you park in the AEA rear parking lot. If you turn in the driveway just north of ours, for the Trailer Park, then you can turn left into a LARGE lot just above our parking lot. It won't require you to drive up hill on the ice. The hale and hearty mother and daughter team of Amanda and Diana Harwood have chiseled out some steps in the snow between that lot and our parking lot.

Of course if you feel uncomfortable about coming out in the weather, we encourage you to stay home and have a safe and happy HOLIDAY!

~Eva
